School Children

In summer 2009 we started our program for school children (Scholarship Program). We support children from very poor backgrounds with a monthly amount. Most of our scholarship children attend a government school. The majority of our schoolchildren are girls.
Our support covers costs for exercise books and school-related additional expenses (pens, snacks, etc.). At the start of each school year in April, the children/families receive an extra nudge for things like new school uniforms, shoes, etc.
The support is long-term; more precisely up to the SLC *.
At the moment (2022) 29 children/families are supported and in the near future we may add more children to the program.

*SLC= school leaving certificate after the 10. Class, the milestone of every Nepalese student.

Three normal stories:

Anisha
After the death of her father, the mother moved back to her parents’ house. But only one uncle earns there; so money is very tight. The school costs exceed the modest budget of the extended family.

Bintunap Napit
Due to serious health problems, the father can not pursue a regular job. The mother is forced to work as a day labourer and does not earn very much. Bintunap has a brother.
She has a great school motivation and learns quickly. The family lives in Dulikhel in a very small home.

Antara Tapa
Antara lives with relatives. Her mother died in an accident and her father left her. No one knows where he is. Before the support of La Dhoka, Antara attended the school; but then had to cancel, because no one wanted to and could pay the fees for them anymore.

Attendance at the government schools is free of charge in Nepal, but parents still have…

  • Backpacks for Dhading

Dhading is located just outside the Kathmandu Valley. Here at the Bhimdhunga Government School, we have been supporting ten schoolchildren from poor backgrounds with a scholarship since six years. In May, BK and Laxmi visited the school and distributed exercise books, backpacks and some food. Radiant faces were the result of this action.
